Youth-led podcast series to feature 'uncomfortable' conversations to bridge 'disconnect' between people

At a moment in time when there’s a sense of deep political and social divide in Canada and beyond, LOVE Nova Scotia is hoping to bridge the disconnect between people who have opposing views and come from different backgrounds in order to inspire positive change. 

On Jan. 28, the organization is launching a youth-led program called Conversation for Change.

It will be a series of conversations with politicians and other community leaders about ways to build a greater sense of unity in Nova Scotia and tackle pressing issues like systemic racism and housing insecurity, presented in hour-long podcasts. 

Shawntay Rose Dann is spearheading the initiative and she’ll be meeting one-on-one with Conversation for Change guests to ask them tough questions and dig for the truth. 

Her first guest is Lisa Roberts, the Nova Scotia NDP housing spokeswoman and MLA for Halifax Needham. 

“One of my goals is to make people a little bit uncomfortable. We need to get uncomfortable in order to comfortably have those conversations,” said Dann, who is LOVE Nova Scotia’s youth spokesperson.

“It’s more so picking their brains, but broadening their visions at the same time.”
