LOVE Leader Maliek Beals scores massive entrance scholarship to Dalhousie University

We are delighted to share that LOVE Leader Maliek Beals has secured an honour of great distinction: an entrance scholarship of $50,000 as he begins his studies in Computer Sciences at Dalhousie University in Halifax. 

“Math has been my thing my whole life,” says 17-year-old Beals, who adds that it was a natural leap to immerse himself in computer technology. 

Maliek joined LOVE in grade 10, and describes his life then as “unmotivated”.

 “I was all over the place, I didn’t have any goals.”

With the help of LOVE program staff, Maliek says he developed concrete skills. “LOVE gave me that startup to pursue [computer science].” 

“I learned leadership, public speaking, and organizational skills.” 

Maliek couldn’t be more excited to begin his studies, meet new people, and his professors at Dal in the Fall. “I may not be able to go to LOVE every week, but LOVE will always be a part of my life.”
